Atelier Swarovski presents Crystal Blind by Studio Brynjar & Veronika and Slanted Tiles by Study O Portable
Alongside the Swarovski Designers of the Future installation, Atelier Swarovski presents its latest limited-edition collection with leading design talents Studio Brynjar & Veronika and Study O Portable. For design duo Brynjar Sigurðarson and Veronika Sedlmair, inspiration begins with their environment—in particular the landscapes and people of Sigurðarson’s native Iceland. Through extensive research and exploration, they translate these anthropological and geological influences into designed objects. Crystal Blind brings a sense of the natural world into the domestic space, comprising a series of bespoke prismatic slats in pure crystal that reflect and refract a rainbow of light and color, making the home a place of constant change, surprise, and delight.
Study O Portable is a research-based practice founded by Bernadette Deddens and Tetsuo Mukai. The duo begins each project by looking back at historical incarnations of a concept or an object before devising an original work—an approach that reflects the transitional nature or our ideas toward our designed environment.
Slanted Tiles is a series of surfaces that exploits the emotional impact of crystal as a material. When developing this design, Deddens and Mukai found inspiration in Swarovski’s cutting technology and the blurring of color and light created by the crystal-cutting process. This curious effect reminded them of the transitive colors found in nature, such as a fading sunset, which they translated into subtly hued, shining crystal surfaces.
The Atelier Swarovski homeware lines include functional and decorative tabletop objects, home accessories, and gifts created in collaboration with the world’s leading design talents. Celebrating innovative design, the Atelier Swarovski home décor collections demonstrate the infinite creative possibilities of crystal.
