Design at Large

Design Miami/ Basel’s Design at Large is the highlight exhibition platform for large-scale works and installations that examine a topic of current relevance as part of the fair's standing as "the global forum for design."

The 2019 program, tentatively titled "Elements: Earth," aims to explore the role of design, materials and making in a post-nature, Anthropocene future. We invite you to submit projects that prompt questions about how human activity, and its impact on our planet and its resources, is dissolving the distinctions between natural and human-made, raw materials and waste, and consumption and production--and how design and designers are engaging this context with a sense of criticality, responsibility and possibilities. While the theme lends itself to contemporary projects of an experimental and speculative nature, historical works that can be seen in dialogue are also encouraged. The projects can take the form of structures, pavilions, or any other larger scale installations, including performances and video projections.

Accepted proposals will be selected by Aric Chen, the 2019 Curatorial Director for Design Miami/, and presented at the entrance to Design Miami/ Basel in our 2000 square meter Event Hall designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

Applications to participate at the 2019 edition are now closed.
